3D Sign Lettering Edmonton

3D Sign Lettering in Edmonton for Building Facades, Reception Walls, and Interiors

Three-dimensional letters and logos add depth, presence, and material quality to signage that flat printed signs cannot match. A dimensional letter set mounted to a reception wall or building facade has visual weight and casts shadows that change with the light throughout the day.

Materials for 3D Sign Lettering

Four Materials. Every Application from Exterior to Interior.

Aluminum is the most durable and premium material for exterior dimensional lettering: CNC-routed from sheet, powder-coated or anodised, and rated for Edmonton’s full climate range. Acrylic letters from 6mm to 25mm thickness suit interior reception signs and feature walls, with translucent options for LED illumination. High-density urethane (HDU) foam is rigid, lightweight, and machinable to fine detail, used for large exterior letters where reduced weight is a mounting advantage.

PVC dimensional letters are the most cost-effective option for interior applications and short-term outdoor use. Each material has a different weight, durability profile, finish range, and price point. We advise on the right material for your application, mounting surface, environment, and budget during the design consultation.

Materials, Mounting, and Illumination

Four Materials. Three Mounting Methods. Three Illumination Configurations.

Every combination of material, mounting, and illumination is achievable in-house at our Edmonton facility. We advise on the right specification for each application.

01

Aluminum Dimensional Letters

CNC-routed from aluminum sheet with powder-coated or anodised finishes. Brushed aluminum and anodised finishes for architectural applications. Holds up through Edmonton’s full climate range without warping, fading, or corrosion when specified with appropriate surface treatment. Lifespan 15 or more years.

02

Acrylic Dimensional Letters

Cut from acrylic sheet in 6mm to 25mm thickness. Every standard acrylic colour including gloss, matte, frosted, and translucent tints. Translucent acrylic can be edge-lit or halo-lit with LED. Well suited to interior reception signs and feature walls. UV-stabilised formulations for outdoor use.

03

HDU Foam and PVC Letters

HDU foam: rigid, closed-cell, lightweight, and machinable to fine detail. Used for large exterior dimensional letters where reduced weight is a mounting advantage. Coated and painted for outdoor use. PVC: most cost-effective option for interior applications and short-term outdoor use.

04

Mounting: Flush, Standoff, and Raceway

Flush mount: letters attach directly to the wall surface. Cleanest aesthetic for interiors. Standoff mount: letters held away from the wall on brushed stainless or anodised posts, creating a shadow gap that enhances the dimensional effect. Raceway for illuminated exterior letters groups all wiring in a painted channel.

05

Illuminated Dimensional Letters

Front-lit: translucent acrylic face glows from internal LED. Halo-lit: solid face with clear back, LEDs create a glow around each letter against the wall. Edge-lit: LED strips along letter edges produce even glow across the face. Each configuration produces a distinct visual effect for different environments.

Have a Logo?

We Reproduce It in Three Dimensions

Logo reproductions in 3D form are one of our most common dimensional sign applications. We convert your artwork to CNC-ready files and fabricate in the appropriate material for your location.

Specifications and Longevity

Aluminum 15+ Years. Acrylic 7-10 Years Outdoors. Thickness by Application.

Material, thickness, and mounting method are specified together for each application. We advise on the combination that fits your environment and budget.

Thickness is determined by letter height, viewing distance, and the visual weight you want the letters to carry. For interior reception signs, 10mm to 20mm thickness on acrylic or aluminum produces a substantial appearance at close viewing range. For large exterior building letters, depths of 50mm to 150mm or more are common to ensure the dimensional character is visible from street distance.

Aluminum dimensional letters with powder-coat or anodised finish are essentially permanent in normal conditions: 15 or more years without surface degradation if maintained. Acrylic letters in UV-stabilised formulations last 7 to 10 years outdoors and indefinitely indoors. HDU foam with correct exterior coating lasts 10 or more years outdoors. PVC is suited to interior and short-term outdoor applications.

Dimensional letters can be mounted to most commercial wall surfaces including drywall, concrete, brick, metal panel, and glass. The anchoring method varies by wall material. For heavy aluminum letters on exterior masonry, structural anchors are specified. For lighter acrylic interior letters on drywall, appropriately sized toggle or screw anchors are used.

Aluminum: 15+ Years

Powder-coated or anodised aluminum is essentially permanent in normal outdoor conditions. Most durable option for exterior building facades in Edmonton’s climate.

Acrylic: 7-10 Years Outdoors, Indefinite Indoors

UV-stabilised acrylic for outdoor applications. Standard cast acrylic for interiors. Available in translucent formulations for LED illumination configurations.

HDU Foam: 10+ Years with Correct Coating

Lightweight rigid foam suited to large exterior letters where aluminum weight would create mounting challenges. Requires correct exterior coating finish for longevity.

Thickness Guide

Interior reception: 10-20mm. Large exterior building letters: 50-150mm or more. Thickness determines the visual weight and shadow depth that makes dimensional lettering effective at viewing distance.

CNC Fabrication and Installation

Every Letter CNC-Cut In-House. Installed by Our Team.

We fabricate all dimensional letters in-house using CNC routing and cutting equipment. Each letter profile is cut to precise dimensions from the specified material. Finishing, painting, powder coating, and LED integration are all completed at our Edmonton production facility before the letters leave the shop.

Logo reproductions in three-dimensional form are one of our most common dimensional sign applications. We convert your logo artwork to CNC-ready vector files and fabricate the dimensional logo in the appropriate material and thickness for your mounting location. Complex logos with fine detail have minimum size requirements to achieve clean results in the chosen material; we advise on these during the artwork review.

For project inquiries, call us at 780-540-9540 or use the quote request form. We serve Edmonton, Spruce Grove, St. Albert, Stony Plain, Sherwood Park, and Leduc. Our shop is at 18118 107th Avenue, Edmonton.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about 3D sign lettering from Edmonton businesses.

Powder-coated aluminum is the most durable material for outdoor dimensional letters in Edmonton’s climate. It resists UV degradation, freeze-thaw cycling, and corrosion without the surface deterioration that affects less specified materials. HDU foam with a quality exterior coating finish is also durable and lighter than aluminum for large letters where weight is a mounting consideration.
Thickness is determined by letter height, viewing distance, and the visual weight you want the letters to carry. For interior reception signs, 10mm to 20mm thickness on acrylic or aluminum produces a substantial appearance at close viewing range. We advise on appropriate thickness for your specific application.
Yes. Dimensional letters can be illuminated in front-lit, halo-lit, and edge-lit configurations depending on the material and letter construction. Front-lit and halo-lit configurations use LED modules inside each letter housing. Edge-lit configurations use LED strips along the letter edges. See our Channel Letters and LED Signs pages for more detail on illuminated configurations.
Dimensional letters can be mounted to most commercial wall surfaces including drywall, concrete, brick, metal panel, and glass with appropriate hardware. The anchoring method varies by wall construction material. For heavy aluminum letters on exterior masonry, structural anchors are specified. For lighter acrylic interior letters on drywall, appropriately sized toggle or screw anchors are used.
